mashed potato

Assalamualaikum

The Boyfie loves mashed potato so much. No wonder he would order a big bowl one just him. lol. As always, I love making surprises for him(ahh just to show off an effort). However, making the gravy is a bit more labor intensive than I’m used to - and I know this is not baking. It’s about cooking, mannn.

I used only 3 large potatoes and make the gravy just as the original ingredients. What will always be the problem when making the gravy is, it’s not easy to completely dissolve the flour. But not to worry, just turn the gravy into an electric blender and finish it!

Although the taste is a bit different than the one in KFC, not much; but I just loved how the black pepper mixture fixes in it. I' would say, it's better! Yup, there’s nothing better than the home-made food and I will certainly use this recipe as my reference in the future.

mashed potato
For 4 servings
Recipe adapted from HaSue

Ingredients:
For the mashed potato:
6 large potatoes
2 tbsp. butter
5 tbsp. fresh milk
Pinch of salt
Black pepper powder, according to taste

For the gravy:
650 ml water
1 shallot, finely chopped
1 stick of celery, chopped (optional)
2-3 tbsp. chicken stock powder/1 cube of chicken stock
4 tbsp. butter
4 tbsp. flour
1 tbsp. tomato sauce
1 tbsp. oyster sauce
1 tbsp. dark soy sauce
Salt, according to taste
1/2 tsp. black pepper powder

Method:
For the mashed potato:
1. Peel the potatoes skin and cut into small cubes. Put into a bowl of water and bring to boil over a medium heat.
2. Toss the mixture and mash the potatoes. Mix well with the butter, milk, salt and black pepper powder. Keep aside.

For the gravy:
1. Mix the shallot with the water and heat over a medium heat. Put the chicken stock cube and celery into the mixture and bring to boil. Toss the mixture into a bowl and keep the water(broth) aside.
2. In a separate bowl, melt the butter and slowly mix in the flour, stirring constantly until completely dissolved. Carefully add the broth and stir.
3. Put the sauces, continue stirring until dark as desired.
4. Add salt and black pepper powder according to taste. Remove from heat and serve with the mashed potato and potato bans.

Tip: To make it easier, mash the potatoes while they are still hot.

(¯`v´¯) Heap of loves!
